Approximately 50 vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Automobiles, exterior walls and mailboxes were marked, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Police say they were notified during the night on Wednesday evening, when a individual discovered that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish fluid.
The substance had been placed in the shape of a swastika, they reported.
Law enforcement then located multiple other smeared vehicles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations banning the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Officials report preliminary tests suggest the liquid was probably human blood.
"There is still no clue as to where it came from; officials are presently not informed of any harm in association with the incident," they added.
Municipal representatives said they were trying "to resolve the case" and have appealed to the public for tips.
A senior official stated the vandalism rendered him stunned and needed to be resolved quickly.
"This act strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the right-wing attack in 2020," he stated on a platform, referring to the murder of nine individuals by a gunman targeting residents of migrant background in 2020.
